These little things do a great job of keeping bacteria, etc from growing in my humidifier. I have been using my humidifier daily for 8 months, and these have really cut down on the number of times that I have to clean the tank. I usually buy them at my retail giant store for much less, but they don't seem to carry them during the summer. I was willing to pay a little more this time just because I've gotten used to the convenience.

This air purifier worked great for a little over a year until one day it just wouldn't start! The controls made it easy to start an hour before I got home, or an hour after I'd fall asleep, but after a year it would not work in any outlet (in two apartments) UNLESS I had it plugged into my UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply) and the UPS was unplugged from the wall and running on it's batteries! Austin Air Allergy Machine Jr. Review

This is the first time I've purchased an air purifier not based on the cadr, so I was a little nervous.But it is great.From day one, the air in my bedroom has smelled very fresh.In addition, I purchased this because of a potential mold problem in my apartment.Since using it, I have experienced less symptoms than before.I like it so much, I'm thinking of purchasing another one for my second floor because the old Hunter I have isn't sufficient.

I would recommend this air purifier to anyone, especially if you have allergies.The only reason I didn't give this a 5-star rating is because it is a little noisy on high (although for normal uses, it probably wouldn't need to always be run on high like I'm doing because of my mold problem).Also, you have to have some place out of the way to put it as it must be set 8 inches from the wall with the air output facing away from the wall.

The possibility of cat litter box odor lurking in my house terrifies me. I am really sensitive to smells and want my home to be considered clean and odor free.The cat boxes are cleaned regularly.Good litter is used.But there is always this little worry in the back of my mind that a guest will walk in the front door and shout "What the H*ll!When did you start hoarding cats?!" A newspaper coupon enticed me to purchase the Lysol automatic spray kit at the grocery store for considerably less than I paid online for its predecessor.I have used it for four months without any difficulty.No leaks, no hissing.

Easy to assemble, just pop in the batteries, spray can, and set frequency of spray. I have recently replaced the AA batteries for the first time after 4 months of continual use. No fuss, no muss and no leaks.

You can utiltize a number of different sprays to fit the kit.As an asthmatic, I don't like cloying scents so I stick with the Fresh Scent and I time it for the most frequent spray. A can of spray easily purchased in the grocery store lasts approximately 3 to 4 weeks. The spray kit fits easily on the laundry room window upper ledge.Since it is battery operated the kit is much easier to place just where you want it, unlike the electrical air fresheners.I don't find it bulky. I have it positioned NOT to spray directly into the cat water, food or litter, just a general wisp in the room.My cats could care less that it is there.

It has been a little workhorse for me, reasonably priced and convenient to obtain replacement spray cans and batteries from the grocery store. Great buy!

When I first began running this humidifier, I was thrilled with the results...for about two weeks. Unfortunately, when the cleaning light blinked for the first time, I cleaned the machine, and it has never operated properly since those first two weeks. The humidity now does not rise above 30%, even though it was initially getting up to 60%. The Air-O-Swiss toll-free number has a twenty minute wait, and when I did finally get in touch with an operator, their suggestions were straight out of the user's manual, all of which I had already tried. As a major allergy sufferer, I was *very* excited to find this model initially, since it does not require any moldy filters, and is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also extremely quiet, easy to fill, and, it seemed, high-functioning. But I've been struggling to improve the performance of this machine for weeks, and have severe doubts about whether it's worth the extreme price tag. And considering that cleaning the base and the filters is such a time-consuming chore (every two weeks, at least), I would have trouble recommending such an expensive product.

510 Bionaire Air Cleaner Replacement Filter Review

I have a small, really old BIOTECH (Bionaire) air "purifier" which I had sitting on the shelf...almost gave up on using it again until I ran across this filter which fits! I also bought the charcoal foam, large size, which had to be cut; no problem there though. Amazingly, the thing has cleared out the mildew smell on my seasonally musty enclosed porch, and keeps the air nice and fresh. I run it on low, 24/7, with "ions" turned on. I did drag some sandpaper over the ion needle, which looked kinda rusty. But otherwise just flipped open the grates and stuck in the 2 filters. How great to be able to revive the old machine to be of such worthy use. Thanks for carrying these filters. :)

Neoair PLUS Air Purifier and Air Cleaner Review

On the surface, this Neoair Plus has a ok spec. It is $300 for a compact purifier that has a low annual filter replacement cost of ~$60, a low power consumption of 70 Watts, not too noisy at 46 dB, and serving up to 600 square feet with a fan speed of 200 CFM.Now what can be wrong with such a purifier?Well, the problem is that NeoAir Plus is far weaker than it appears.The 200 CFM (cubic feet per minute) fan speed is not very powerful comparing to its competitors. Most purifiers on the market participate in the AHAM (Association Home Appliance Manufacturers) certification to get three CADR values (Clean Air Delivery Rating). There are 3 CADR values for smoke, dust and pollen removal rates. Neoair did not get certified and only reports its fan speed (200 CFM). This is very troubling because a fan speed does not indicate the cleaning power of a purifier. For instance, your typical fan at home has a CFM fan speed, but it has a "ZERO" CADR since it cannot purify air. The CADR of Neoair Plus is probably 200 at its best (where CADR = CFM). Honeywell 50250 has a certified 250 CADR and is sold at $150. 3M Filtrete FAP03-RC has an averaged 290 CADR and is $200. Whirlpool AP450 has an averaged 315 CADR and is $250. All three are cheaper and more powerful than Neoair Plus.

What also concern me is some of the marketing and customer services of this young company. It is rather important to point out that when Neoair claims this unit can serve 600 square feet, the statement is overrated and misleading. The industrial guideline written by the AHAM is to use the smoke CADR and a 5 air change per hour to estimate the usage space. While Honeywell, 3M, and Whirlpool purifiers are more powerful, they are suggested for a smaller usage space of 375, 348, 500 square feet, respectively. This is because these companies follow the standard guideline.(Even through 3M filtrete has a higher pollen and dust CADRs than the Honeywell 50250, 3M has a lower smoke CADR and therefore a lower recommended floor space) Using the standard definition, this Neoair Plus should be used for a 300 sq ft, half of its advertised 600 sq ft. The fact that Neoair did not go to an independent organization to certify their CADR should raise some eyebrows. This misleading 600 sq ft advertising tactic sure seems like a way to prey on average customers. Please understand that, unlike CADR, there is no legal guideline for defining the recommended floor space.Thus, companies can deviate from the standard calculation with no legal consequence.In this case, NeoAir used a 2.5 air change per hour for its calculation -- instead of 5.In addition, this company customer service is somewhat lacking. They do not seem to know their products well when I contact them.

Finally, even if you believe Neoair made a honest mistake, you have to wonder why you want to pay more for a weaker purifier. Let's just take Whirlpool AP450 as a comparison again.Whirlpool AP450 is rated as the number ONE purifier by Consumer Reports. Neoair Plus is $300 and Whirlpool AP450 is $250. Neoair Plus has a cleaning power of 200 CADR at best and Whirlpool has an averaged 315 CADR.Alternatively, you can get two Honeywell 50250 for the same price as Neoair Plus.So, here is another choice: one Neoair for ~200 CADR or two Honeywell for a total 500 CADR.I am simply wondering: Can someone honestly justify a purchase of Neoair Plus in light of all of these superior purifiers on the markets which also happens to have better support?

**For people who are interested here is the math. The recommended floor space is calculated based on a 8 feet ceiling height and a 5 air-change per hour condition. Let's uses Honeywell 50250 as an example. It has a 250 CADR which translates to a 250 cubic feet per minute cleaning speed or 15000 cu ft per hour. Now divides 15000 cu ft per hour by a 8 ft ceiling and by a 5 air change per hour will result a 375 floor space. A shortcut is to simply multiple the CADR value by "1.5".e.g.: 250CADR X 1.5 = 375 sq ft **

The AirFree P2000 literature claims that the product incinerates bacteria by heating the air to 400 degrees fahrenheit, and uses convection current to circulate air through the unit.

I was skeptical, but as we were looking for a product to help with our kid's allergies, decided to give it a try.There was absolutely no difference in the quality of the air in their bedroom after a few weeks. The documentation does correctly state that the product does not work with allergens or dust that has settled on surfaces of the room, only for things floating in the air.

However, the convection current is not nearly strong enough to really pull enough air through the unit to do any good at all. If you slap the carpet right next to the unit and look at the dust that billows up, most of it will settle right back on the ground next to the Airfree - even right next to the air intake vents, you can not see even the slightest pull of the dust towards the unit - it just settles right back down on the ground.

The documentation also states that you need to keep it on for at least a week to notice any effect.However, just the airflow from under any bedroom door will replace more air in the room in one day than this unit can clean in a month, guaranteed! And that's if you leave the door closed.

Think of it this way - you could get the exact same effect by leaving a burner on an electric stove turned on 24 hours a day.Would you even consider this as a solution to your asthma? It's just a waste of electricity.

The unit is outrageously overpriced at $239.I opened it up to see what was inside.As expected, it's just a basic control circuit with a ceramic heating element.As far as the parts go, there is less here than what is used to build a regular $25 coffee maker or toaster.Ok, they don't manufacture this in mass produced volume, but they would still make a very good profit if it was sold for $50.

There's not many products that I would give zero stars to, but this is one of them.

Sharper Image Ionic Breeze 3.0 Compact Silent Air Purifier (SI397) Review

I purchased this after an informercial. My warrenty was for 3 years. Lucky for me, since 14 months after receiving the unit it died with no warning.
The manufacture made me return it AT MY OWN EXPENSE and then they sent me a new unit. Took 2 months.
Well, the new unit arrived 8 days ago. It died an hour ago. I called the customer service and refused to pay to send it back AGAIN.
They ARE sending me out a new unit (again), but it will take up to 10 business days to receive. They agreed to send a pre-paid shipping label this time too. (Could take a month though.)
Meanwhile, I have nothing. After reading the reviews below, I could have kicked myself. I subscribe to the online version of Consumer Reports so did what another did...looked it up. Consumer Reports says this Ionic Breeze only "removes a few particles from the air", nothing else. They also did the test, as the infomercial showed, of putting the Breeze in an enclosed space with smoke and turned it on. It did NOT do what the infomercial said. It did not "power through smoke". It did nothing.
I am taking the advice of Consumer Reports. I am refunding my money on the Breeze and purchasing "the high-scoring Friedrich C-90A and Whirlpool AP45030HO models" which DOES work...and work well.
Avoid the Ionic Breeze unit, for the home AND/OR the car.

Holmes HAP424-U HEPA-Type Tower Air Purifier Review

I got this filter because I have cats and birds, and before I started using it, I always had a coating of "bird dust" on everything and was concerned about breathing it. I bought it in mid summer, and in early fall, I opened it up to see if the filters were "catching" anything, and sure enough, they were covered with a fine powdery silt, and then I realized that the bird dust that used to cover desks and other surfaces had almost disappeared since I had started using it.I was grateful to know that the machine had been doing its job.Whenever it was on, I did notice a subtle change in air quality...it seemed fresher.I have kept it running almost constantly for three months, and have not had any problems with it.

While it's working, I don't notice the sound that much, especially on the lower setting which is what I usually keep it on.It simply becomes "white noise".The higher setting is definitely louder, so if that's something that bothers a person, it should be kept in mind, but it's a humming, blowing sound, not rattling or harsh.

I can't compare it to other air purifiers because it's the only one I've ever had, but for the price, and for a person on a budget, I think it's done an amazing job.I'd like to get another for a different part of my house.

HEPA-5030 Duracraft Air Cleaner Replacement Filter Review

The duracraft Hepa 260 was our first air purifier we purchased. Reason being is because of the misery of allergy season and declared that I wasn't going to suffer through this again. I have discovered since the first purchase that one needs to have one purifier for the living room and another one for the bed room.

Replacement filters are still available on line; just search for Duracraft 5030.

We have three dogs and the dust and dander was getting to be a real problem in our house. So we brought the Duracraft out of the garage ( it was mothballed) purchased a new filter and now we are in business again.

The Duracraft Hepa 260 which is identical to the Honeywell HEPA 200, has three speeds; Super (near hurricane strength) High and Silent. We run ours on High. Now it's only fair to warn you that the 260 moves a lot of air with it's powerful motor; which is louder than our Honeywell 18155 but that is a good thing. I we want a powerful motor to exchange as much volume of air as possible; also compared to the 18155, the Duracraft has more intake vents and moves more air too.

The 260 has an optional ozone switch; the jury is still out as to the pros and cons of that issue; but at least you have that option available to you.

The only thing that's missing would be a change or clean filter lights like on the 18155; but that is a minor issue. We prefer the Duracraft 260 over the Honeywell 18155 by far and it's a disappointment it is no longer available.

We vacuumed the 260 when the filter looks dirty thus saving $$$ n a new filter. Which doesn't seem to effect it's performance. TRUE Hepa filters are still available at iallergy (online) if you search duracraft 260 or model 5030.

AHAM rateing for this unitis 170 for tabacco, dust & pollen each.

If the white noise will be an issue with you, you may want to concider the less powerful Honeywell 18155

We recommend that you operate your Honeywell air cleaner 24 hours a day because indoor air can be quickly contaminated by activity in a room, infiltration of outside air, and generation by sources of contamination. While all the air in a room will not be processed by the air cleaner, the more air circulated through the filter, the more filtered air returned to the room. Portable air cleaners will be much more effective in rooms where all doors and windows are closed.

The Honeywell True HEPA air cleaner is ready to begin cleaning the air as soon as it is removed from the carton and plugged in. Because it circulates air in a 360 degree pattern around the air cleaner, it can be placed on the floor in almost any location. However, for best performance the air outlet slot should not be blocked for at least 1 meter (three feet) in all directions.

Due to the large volume of air drawn towards the air cleaner, surrounding areas should be cleaned and/or vacuumed frequently to prevent buildup. This may help keep your home cleaner and may extend the life of your pre-filter. If the unit is placed on light colored carpeting, a small mat or rug should be used to ease cleaning and prevent any permanent staining. This is particularly important in homes with heavier contamination from smoking or fireplaces.

NQ Clarifier Residential Air Purifier - HEPA Air Cleaner with Ultraviolet Review

I bought my first NQ Clarifier for $699 (free ship) in 2005. It was one of the best purchases I have made as an MCS (Multiple Chemical Sensitivities) sufferer.

The improvement in air quality is palpable and the machine can clean all the air in a 1500 square foot house twice every hour. This is better than other HEPA air purifiers in this price range. The top-flow design differs from that of most other air purifier brands and it seems to do a much better job at circulating the air and reducing dead spots of unpurified air in a room. The substantial 15 lb of carbon media and powerful fan pulling air through the HEPA filter and carbon media does a good job of totally absorbing all chemical odors and allergens. The purified air finally passes through a germicidal UV filtration system and comes out medical grade pure like what you would find in a hospital clean room.

The indicator lights tell me when I need to clean or replace the pre-filter and/or HEPA filter, and the UV bulbs. It's easy to unscrew and open the filter to change the filters and bulbs, which is good for me.

The roller wheels on this rather boxy machine facilitate moving it from room to room within the house. Even though the machine weighs 50 lbs, I have actually brought it to meeting (meeting rooms) to create a safe room for me there. With all the mouldy off-gassing carpets and office furniture, sometimes this air purifier is the only thing that works.

This machine is noisy, particularly at the highest setting. After a while I got used to the 'white noise' in my bedroom, but it might be too much for some people. (I am a light sleeper).

The service provided by the company is excellent. On three occasions when I called up, I spoke with knowledgeable and friendly staff and was attended to right away. This machine has proven sturdy and reliably built for 24/7 running these 3 years.

I bought my second one in 2007.

I originally bought this Hunter 30785 because it was on sale and this was my first purifier.I really didn't know what to expect.I plugged it in and within minutes could smell a cleanliness in the room.The two nights I had it running while I was sleeping, I noticed I could breathe easier and my wife said I didn't snore.I returned it to the store because I wanted one with a filter that could just be cleaned instead of replaced every year for about $50.I tried the Honeywell 17000 and the Honeywell 50250 which were both True Hepa filters for about a week each and my snoring continued and the clean smell wasn't in the room.I also tried the Germ Guardian UV-C purifier and also noticed no difference.I went back to the store and bought two of the Hunter 30785 models and I am back to sleeping like a baby.I will deal with the added cost of the filters to get a quality product.

And just to correct an earlier post, this purifier does come with filters.

BlueAir 501 Air Purifier with SmokeStop Filter Review

Have used several less expensive HEPA filters in the past with less than stellar results - the Blueair 501 cleans the air more thoroughly - I would wake up occasionally coughing before (most likely due to pet dander) - have not had this happen since running the purifier at night on setting "4" of 5.I also have a neighbor who's second-hand smoke sometimes drifts in through the pipe fittings - the smell has disappeared, too.This unit is more expensive but it's worth it - am very satisfied!

Honeywell17200 Envirocare QuietCare HEPA Air Cleaner, White Review

Having purchased similar items in the past, I thought that I knew exactly what I wanted. When I found the item on Amazon, I was quite happy until it showed up at our door. I took it out of the box only to find out that the unit had a 220V, 2-pin rounded (European) plug.Nowhere in the online ads could I find this detail. I just looked again and still cannot find this in their ads. When I complained to Amazon and ANTonline (the suplier) about the problem, all they could offer was for me to send the unit back.That's not a easy deal with a big, bulky item like this.I ended up purchasing a 220 "step-up" converter for about another $20 with shipping and now it works fine.I wish that I had known about this plug and voltage issue before making the purchase.I might add that this is one of the few times that I've been disappointed with a purchase from Amazon.

Before ordering a replacement HEPA filter for your Honeywell (or other brand) Air Cleaner, be sure to check the model number on the unit. This filter is for the smaller round unit (Model 10500) and for the smaller of the two upright units with handles (Model 17000). I replace my HEPA filter every year because I am very allergic to cigarette smoke, pollens, dust, molds, and other allergens and irritants. Also, this HEPA filter has pre-filters that wrap around it, so you may want to order a box of those, too. The pre-filters should be changed every 3 months, but I check them more often and vacuum off any accumulated pet hair.

I have often looked at air filters with some skepticism.However, I kept visiting a friends house who had multiple filters with ionizers and noticed that I felt good when I left and the air seemed so fresh.After a few repitions of this experience, I decided to give one a try and I was most pleased.

When I bought this unit I had a cold and I was waking up with a lot of congestion and not sleeping very soundly.I put this unit in my bedroom and in the morning I felt much better and more clear.I thought it might just be that I was getting better, so I turned it off the next night and experienced the same congestion.Now... when I don't use it, I notice I don't sleep as soundly and I have more issues with being stuffy.

I am trained as a biochemist and worked teaching physiology.Based on my EXPERIENCE, not research.... I have found that I sleep more soundly and have less problems with allergies, congestion, etc. when I use this product.I also have a cat that sometimes comes into the bedroom and I'm sure her hair contributes to these issues.However, when I run this product it's not a problem.

Also... I recommend using the ionizer.For me, this seems to be the best setting and I feel at my best when this is engaged when I leave it on all night.I'm not sure what it's doing for me exactly, but it's doing something and I'm sufficiently impressed with the results that I'm considering buying a second unit.

Finally, I think it's convenient and easy to maintain to have the permanent filter.I know this product is s bit expensive, but I think it may be one of those cases where you get what you pay for.I've been in environments with other types of air filters and I haven't found that they work as well or run as quietly as this one.Also, the replacement filter costs can make the cost of ownership even higher.This is something you will probably want to consider carefully, especially if you have pets or get a lot of dust in your environment.
