We invested in this pricey air purifier because we moved into newly built home. The chemicals from the new materials caused respiratory issues with myself and my daughter. Aprilaire 5000 Electronic Air Cleaner Review

Purchased these for each of my furnaces 2 years ago and have been very pleased.It cleared up the allergens in my house air totally.Previous issues with allergies have disappeared.

The only probleme I have had is that the electronics fails to turn on-which you need for the electrostatic filter to work at its 90% effecincy, otherwise it is only 80%.Appears that the electronics is very susceptible to the filter door being not properly seated, so must be careful when replacing door after a filter change.

Filters are easily procured via internet at $60/for two and they last for a full year
Highly recommend this filter-it works as advertised.

This unit does the job.You don't have to buy very expensive HEPA filter replacements and at its quietest setting you can leave it running in the room where you sleep with the door closed.It will make it possible to get through allergy season without being totally wiped out.

I would like to remark about some of the negative reviews of this device.

1.It is not a house cleaner and does not have a charcoal filter in it.It cannot make a household that has continuous heavy smoking smell all clean and fresh.It is not designed to make up for lack of housecleaning such as vacuuming rugs.

2.The particles that cause irritation are not easily seen with the naked eye.If this unit is operated for a reasonable amount of time the pre-filter will catch the bigger
pieces of airborne junk such as shredded skin particles - the major component of what people call "dust".
The permanent filter will catch the smaller stuff.If you gently knock the permanent filter on a piece of paper this dirt will show.Use a vacuum to clean it out completely.

3.No, this unit does not generate a great deal of ozone and doesn't smell bad when you take it out of the box.Some people's respiratory systems are so sensitive that they react to any amount.Examine the effects of a real ozone generator and compare.The electrostatic mechanism in this air cleaner doesn't even come close.Doing what is necessary to build up your health will reduce the sensitivity.

4.If there is indeed defective units out there shame on Honeywell.That doesn't mean a properly operating unit shouldn't be obtained and given a chance.

Recommended to me by my daughter who was told about the product by her boss. We all have cats, which means litter boxes and associated kitty smells in our houses. I have used the Little Green Machine in the past and bought this to use on the cars that I detail and small stains on rugs in the house. I use it for small areas which are soiled with coffee or soda. I bought it because it had a higher amperage rating than the Green Machine. I have used it and it works very well for small areas. The water heater is just OK and I find that using an external source like an external sprayer and brush to loosen and wet the stain/dirt works the best; then I use the Bissell to suck up all the residue. I like the power of the suction and it works well. The dirty water tank has a cut off feature that will "pop" when filled to the limit which is nice, so you won't overfill it. After using it I clean it out any leftover dirt or stuff in the hose, tank or fittings. I know some reviews have said that it doesn't work well or clogs, but I have found that taking a little time to clean it out when done will eliminate most of those problems. Good for smaller areas; best to use proper cleaner for the stains.

IQAir AM GCX Air Cleaner Review

There is no magical, cheap, silent, super-energy efficient way to REALLY clean air. PERIOD. There are only measured compromises.
The IQAir is the absolute best air cleaner available to the public. It makes a bit of noise, but very, very little for the massive volume of air. It uses a bit of electricity, but it takes power to pump air through such absolutely, ridiculously, fabulously purifying multi-stage filters. THINK about it.
The filters seem pricey. THEY AREN'T. The filters last a stupefyingly long time. They are huge and thick--everything they need to be, to stop greater than 99% of .003 micron particulates, plus the huge .3 micron particules that make the filters HEPA certified. Just try to picture the difference--a thousand times smaller. That's like the difference in size between a b-b and a 15 foot diameter ball (if they exist). If you spend a bit more, you get gas filtering too. Spend a little more and get yourself a cleanroom certified IQAir, if you need it.
An IQAir Healthpro Plus saved my wife and I from suffering while several brush fires over the past few years have lapped at our neighborhood. Before having the IQAir, we both suffered gravely whenever brush fires were anywhere within 50 miles.

Austin Air Pet Machine Review

We have had 2 labs for less than a year...the pet machine was bought shortly after the arrival of the second one (a 6 year lab-already house broken!). I felt like the machine worked for less than a week to rid house of "dog smell". There has never been a smell of "accidents" - just that dog odor that I never wanted. We have hard wood floors so there is no carpet to trap odor. Dogs are not on furniture. Machine is by their beds. Beds are vacuumed almost daily and washed often. We vacuum all floors daily. Made mistake of emailing Austin Air directly to complain and was completely dismissed. (even though I was in my 30 day window to return). I did hear from a nicer lady from the place I actually bought it from (through austin air's website?) and she convinced austin air to send me a new filter. It has not changed anything. For all its promises, I cannot say it produces any results on any of them. I am very disappointed with it.

I suffer through allergies ever March & April and decided I was going to declare war on pollen this year. I tried this unit and though it does creates white noise, I know it is circulating air. Although I'm not totally knowledgable on air purifiers and the technology behind it (ionization, etc.) but I'm certainly happy with this one.It removed almost all of the dust in the room it was placed.I was sick and tired of having to dust all the furniture in the room so I got an air purifier.After getting one and I dusted for the last time.There are two computers in the room and the computer cases are modded with many fans around the side so I have to watch out for dust more than normal computer users have to as dust damages your expensive hardware.However, with this air purifier, I didn't have to worry about dust getting into my system at all.It's a great investment.

Smellkiller K15006 Classic Air Cleanser Review

Based upon the other reviews, I was very hopeful that this would be a good product. However, I have tried it in the fireplace (ash odor), basement (musty odor), son's dorm room (who knows what that odor is), trash bin (old garbage odor) and generally around the house. I cannot tell a difference.

Washed it thoroughly before use according to directions. Kept the water level filled and ... nothing. Odors persist where they were difficult before.

If you read the instructions, descriptions and reviews, you will notice a common thread: you must wait many hours for it to work. I think that what is happpening when people report that it "works" is that these odors dissipate on their own in that time. One reviewer even pointed out that if you place the SmellKiller, wait and open the windows, in a short time the odor is gone. I suspect that opening the windows is what did it, not the SmellKiller.

If it seems too good to be true ...you know the rest.

Hoover 40303048 48-Ounce Floor-to-Floor Cleaner for FloorMate Review

It's ok.It's nice that it can switch from hard wood to tile.I just used this product for the first time since I finally finished using the bottle of Old English floor cleaner that came with the machine.I cleaned the kitchen floor first and it seemed to do all right.I did miss the clean scent that the Old English cleaner had.Next I cleaned the linoleum in the bathroom.It didn't seem to get the floor as clean as the Lysol cleaner.It didn't scrub the hairspray residue off the floor like the other cleaner does.And again, I missed the clean smell from the Lysol.The smell of this cleaning fluid borderline stinks.I don't know why Hoover had to mess up a good thing but I wish they wouldn't take the Old English cleaning fluid off the market.If I have to choose between cleaning ability and good scent or a fluid that is versatile but stinks I would choose the first one.

Blueair Smokestop Filter for 402 Air Purifier Review

You're probably completely shocked that this Smokestop Filter costs as much as it does. But trust me, if you have any problems with odors, it's worth EVERY penny.

I normally use the regular Blueair filter for the 402, but I purchased the Smokestop after my neighborhood was flooded with horrible fumes from a nearby methane gas leak. The authorities deemed the gases as harmless, so no evacuations were ordered. However, being very sensitive to fumes of any kind, I became very ill. With no other place to go, I put the Smokestop filter into my 402 and moved the air cleaner into my smallest bedroom, where I camped out for the next couple of days. A trip to any other room of the house left me feeling nauseous, dizzy, with a raging headache and difficulty breathing within minutes (but the fumes were "harmless"!!). The room with the Blueair equipped with the Smokestop filter was absolutely free of odor. It was incredible.

Since not everyone has methane gas leaks permeating their homes (thankfully!), you may never get the chance to test the filter in this way. But it no doubt works wonders with cigarette smoke and other offensive odors that waft into your home.

The filter has 2 "chambers." One filled with activated charcoal, and the other with the familiar Blueair patented white filter. So it doesn't just stop with odors, it still cleans particles from the air with great efficiency, and best of all, Q-U-I-E-T-ly. Just remember to change it after 6 months, even if it means going back to the regular (and cheaper) filter. Happy breathing!

SEPT. 2008 ADDENDUM: I had another fume problem, this time, toxic deck sealant fumes from a home repair seeping into the house. I purchased another Smokestop filter and this time I noticed an odor coming from the filter itself. It's not horrible, but I had become so sensitive to odors after a week of sealant exposure that it made me feel sick. I left the Blueair on high and it has reduced the smell after a few days. To be fair, despite the filter smell, the deck sealant odor was neutralized. And finally, I have a balcony-smoking neighbor, and as soon as secondhand smoke wafts into my bedroom, I turn up the Blueair and the smoke odor is gone in a flash. Just be aware of the initial odor from the filter itself. I'd say I'm dropping my rating to 4 stars, or 3.8 if I could.

Austin Air HealthMate Jr Review

I bought the Austin Healthmate Jr. about 5 years ago for a dusty area and have been happy with it. The three things I like best about it are that you don't have to buy filters very often because you can vacuum the outside of the filter and that it's relatively quiet. The other thing is that it's a HEPA filter takes air in on all four sides and blows the filtered air out through the top area. It seems to do a good job of filtering the air. It's more energy efficient than air purifiers I've used in the past and it has 3 speeds which is nice.

If you use it in really dusty conditions like mine, you can replace the pre-filter more often than the big filter. I've found this type of material that I could cut to fit at a local hardware store. You get a pre-filter with it. You have to take it apart to replace the pre-filter and filters, but it isn't difficult. You can turn off the machine and vacuum it from the outside and that seems to help the filters last longer. Of course, you'll want to use a vacuum cleaner with a hepa filter or you defeat the purpose. I replace mine about once a year, but I think the average person could go much longer.

A1001B Bionaire Air Cleaner Replacement Filter Review

After receiving the filter, I find it is the wrong one due to incorrect product info. Upon contacting them, they have no return policy, except to ship it back at my expense, as well as having to eat the initial shipping. Since there was no choice, I did so, although I am now at the point where the 2 shipment costs are starting to approach the cost of the unit itself.
When they received it, it has mysteriously become "damaged", despite being in the same wrapper and box, therefore ineligible for any refund at all. My next step would be to file a damage claim with UPS. I can guess how well that will go.
Needless to say, this is my last experience with this company

Holmes Hap8756 True HEPA Allergen Remover/Air Purifier Review

I suffer from strong pollen allergies (watery eyes, itchy throat, itchy body, even mild asthma...).
This year has been particularly bad so far, despite a heavy use of anti-allergy medication like benadryl.
Last week I decided to buy this Holmes air purifier, to see if that works. And, surprisingly I must confess, it is actually very efficient against airborne allergens: I placed this unit in my bedroom, and I had no problem sleeping at night. My itchy throat and watery eyes completely disappeared. Overall I am extremely satisfied with this purchase.
The only issue I see is that the unit is a bit noisy, but that does not prevent me from sleeping (it's like having a A/C unit on, you get used to the noise). So I recommend this air purifier for people who suffer from pollen allergies.

Bionaire A1260C Carbon Replacement Filters, 4-pack Review

The "Bionaire A1260C Carbon Replacement Filters" are for use for several models of the Bionaire Air Cleaners(see editorial review for model numbers). I have the Bionaire BAP1175 Quietech Hepa Air Cleaner(which by the way is a fabulous product in itself).
My air cleaner works on a 3 filter system. The first removes the larger particles from the air(it may be washed) Next,this one, is a carbon filter(very easy to install and remove) that traps odors. This works great. The carbon filter does a good job of removing dog smells, smoke and cooking odors as well. It is recommended to change these filters(there are 2) every 3-6 months(it may not be washed).These filters are fairly inexpensive to replace.The instruction manuel says you will know when to replace it, as "odor removal effectiveness will be noticeably reduced". That is exactly how I knew when to change my filters.Running it almost constantly, it was just short of the 3 months that I noticed they needed to be changed, but I attribute that to the house being closed up all summer with the A/C on. And by the way, after replacing the filters,on which I could also see all the dust they filtered, I noticed the difference within minutes!(even with the dog in the house). They are simple to change(I can finally do something I don't have to ask the menfolk to help with), and they come four in a pack, so your all set for the next time. They come in a plastic resealable bag and advise to keep the spares sealed up to maintain freshness. When I ordered, I noticed that they took just a little longer then the other items, so order early.
Oh and for those interested in the Hepa Air Cleaner Model BAP1175...the third filter is the hepa filter..This is already in the machine on arrival. This filter, according to the manuel, removes 99.97% of particulate as small as 0.3 microns in size. It filters smoke, dust, pollen mold spores, pet dander and "some" bacteria. And I believe it. Now these filters are quite a bit more expensive to replace, but they last quite a while, somewhere between 12-24 months. And you will know exactly when to replace it, because there is a great feature, a digital read out of how much filter life is left.After nearly 3 months mine still has about 87% life left. A great buy on a very good product and easy to get here at Amazon(as opposed to running around trying to find the model number I needed.)

Blueair 200CF Replacement Carbon Filter Review

My son has asthma so I bought the sytem for him a while ago...it definitely helped.6 months later comes time to spill another $80 for the filter.This should be simple...you have an air purifier model number and there is a corresponding filter replacement.From the product description I wasn't positive it was right for my exact model number...but it was.And the system continued to rock.I checked prices on other sites and some were lower, but they'd nail you with shipping.Since I have prime I got that for free so it worked out to be the same or less.

Blueair HEPASilent Air Purifier - White (201) Review

I purchased this product several months ago as I've suffered most of my adult life w/ allergies. I have my Blueair next to my bed and leave it on almost 24 hrs. a day. The filter is easy to change (approx. every 6 months) & there are multiple speeds so you can control both the flow & the associated noise of the fan. Even on high, the noise is very comfortable; allowing for a good nites sleep. Since I've started using this device, I've noticed a nice decrease in my sinus symptoms (especially during the height of allergy season). The only negative comment that I will make is that there is a blue 'power' light on the front, upper left panel, that is kinda bright and noticeable in a dark room. However, I McGiver'd it by simply putting a bit of electrical tape over it which blocks it out just fine. Even w/ this one point,I would still recommend this product in a heartbeat.
